Seamanship!

The Seamanship aspect of training finds cadets "tied up in knots".

Cadets develop their knot tying skills to include various splices, hitches, bends and whippings. They learn types of ropes used for various knots, best ropes to use in the water and best knots to use for their activity. They are taught how to prepare lines for throwing and rigging blocks, pulleys and tackles and, at the end of their Phase IV training, have all the skills required to rig sheers. Safety is an important aspect of this training for both the cadet and their surrounding as cadets are taught proper rigging and lifting techniques.
